FAQ

Got questions? We've got answers

Everything you need to know about our services, pricing, and how we care for your pets.

Getting Started

How do I book my first service?

Head to our booking page, fill out the simple form with your details and what services you need, and we'll match you with a sitter. Before your first paid visit, we schedule a free 20-minute meet & greet so everyone is comfortable and we learn your pet's routine.

What happens at the free meet & greet?

Your assigned sitter comes to your home at a time that works for you. They'll meet your pet, go over their routine, get familiar with where supplies are kept, and answer any questions you have. It usually takes about 20 minutes. There's zero obligation to book afterward.

Do I need to sign a contract?

We have a simple service agreement that outlines our responsibilities, your pet's care instructions, and emergency protocols. It's straightforward — no fine print, no long-term commitment.

How far in advance should I book?

For recurring weekly walks, we recommend booking at least 3–5 days ahead so we can match you with a consistent sitter. For one-time visits and short-notice requests, we can often accommodate within 24–48 hours depending on availability.

Services & Pricing

How much does dog walking cost?

Dog walks are $30 for 15 minutes, $55 for 30 minutes, and $90 for 60 minutes. Weekly recurring clients save 10%. All walks include fresh water refill, a photo update, and a leash/safety gear check.

What's included in pet sitting?

Pet sitting includes feeding on your schedule, playtime, walks, medication support (when qualified), mail and package collection, plant watering, and daily text/photo updates. Overnight sitting is $95 for 12 hours or $145 for 24 hours.

Do you charge extra for additional pets?

For drop-in visits, additional pets at the same home are +$5 per visit. For dog walking, we can walk up to two dogs from the same household at no extra charge. For more than two dogs, let's discuss — we'll find a fair rate.

Are there holiday surcharges?

Major holidays have a $15 surcharge per visit. We'll always let you know ahead of time when booking around holidays. Our recognized holidays are New Year's Day, Memorial Day, July 4th, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, and Christmas.

Do you offer training services?

We offer basic manners reinforcement during walks and visits — things like loose-leash walking, sit/stay practice, and polite greetings. For formal obedience training or behavior modification, we can recommend trusted local trainers.

Sitters & Safety

Are your sitters background checked?

Yes. Every sitter passes a thorough background check before joining our team. We also verify references and conduct in-person interviews to make sure they genuinely love animals and have the right temperament for pet care.

Are you insured?

Absolutely. AJB Pet Connect carries full liability insurance and bonding. In the unlikely event something goes wrong, you and your pet are protected.

What if there's an emergency during a visit?

Our sitters are trained in pet first aid and CPR. If your pet shows signs of distress, we contact you immediately. If it's urgent, we'll take your pet to your preferred vet or the nearest emergency clinic. We collect emergency contact and vet info before your first visit.

Will I have the same sitter every time?

We strive for consistency. You're matched with a primary sitter who handles most of your visits. If they're unavailable, we have a backup sitter who's already familiar with your pet's routine — we never send a stranger.

How do I know my sitter actually showed up?

We use GPS-tracked check-ins and check-outs on every visit. You'll also receive real-time photo updates and an end-of-visit summary. You'll know exactly when we arrived, how long we stayed, and what your pet was up to.

Policies & Logistics

How do I pay?

We accept credit/debit cards and bank transfers. Invoices are sent weekly or monthly depending on your schedule. You can also prepay for packages at a discount.

Can I cancel or reschedule?

Yes — cancel or reschedule up to 24 hours before your visit with no charge. Late cancellations (within 24 hours) are billed at 50% of the visit rate. No-shows (sitter arrives and can't access the home) are billed at the full rate.

What about bad weather?

Rain, snow, or shine — we show up. In extreme conditions (blizzards, severe thunderstorms, dangerous heat), we adjust: shorter walks with indoor playtime, or we'll call you to discuss alternatives. Your pet's safety comes first.

How do you access my home?

Most clients provide a key, garage code, or door code at the meet & greet. Keys are stored in a secure lockbox. We never label keys with your address. You can also choose to be home for every visit if you prefer.

What areas do you serve?

We serve Manhattan, Bronx, Queens, Yonkers, White Plains, and New Rochelle. Check our service area page for detailed neighborhood coverage. Don't see your area? Reach out anyway — we may still be able to help.

Are there services for cats and other pets?

While we specialize in dog care, we do offer drop-in visits for cats including feeding, litter box cleaning, and playtime. For other small pets (rabbits, birds, guinea pigs), reach out and we'll see if we can accommodate.
